NSSA Hawaii Regionals Results 2015

This week over 5 days, the Hawaii NSSA regionals surf event was held at Kewalos on Oahu.

Winner of the Open Girls division Sara Wakita spoke with us about the event she said of the conditions “The waves were pretty small the first day but the swell came up for days 2 and 3. The conditions were really clean, smooth and glassy in the morning but a little windy in the later heats.”

Not that you’d expect anything less from the surfer girls of Hawaii but Sara says “In the girls divisions everyone was ripping super hard because a place to compete at the NSSA National Championships at Huntington Beach were at stake.”

Brisa Henessy had a killer finals day making sure she would be representing Hawaii at Nationals winning both the Explorer Women’s and Open Women’s divisions. Young Julie Nishimoto took three 2nd places over all and a 3rd proving she’s a force to be reckoned with.

The NSSA Nationals are a change to put your name in the arena with most of the WCT girls from the USA have come through and dominated the events. Names like Carissa Moore, Alessa Quizon, Bethany Hamilton and Alana Blanchard all big winners throughout their early careers in Hawaii.

In a tough final, super 12 year old Sara focused on wave choice and hitting the lip hard to lock in her highest scores. She said after her win…  “I really didn’t get the move I wanted but the waves were super good and just tried to get as much out of them as I could. I’m just so happy to qualify for Nationals it’s a really exciting to know I’ll be going!”
