The Miss Sumol Surf and Bodyboard Cup Portugal
The 10th Miss Sumol Surf and Bodyboard Cup was held in Costa Nova, Braga, Portugal last week. With some top class waves the girls put on a fantastic display of their skills in both areas.
In the Women’s bodyboard it was a super close final finishing with Joan Schenker defeating Catarina Sousa 11.83 points to 10.91. Joan has come close in previous years with 2 seconds and a 3rd place and this year secured her first win.
Teresa Bonvalot, only 14 years old took out the surf division of the contest making history. Teresa defeated Camila Kemp also in a close final with Camila only losing out she said because “I lost time on the paddle out to the peak after each wave.”
Teresa said of her win “I’m happy with this win here in the Miss Sumol Cup, this national title was something to have worked hard for in the past year.”
The European Surfing Federation who run the event, did a fantastic job running lessons and demonstrations to encourage participation of the two sports to onlookers. It was received well by the Barga community in it’s tenth year.
