Swatch Pro Trestles Event Preview
The addition of up to 5 new events on the girls ASP World Tour has meant a number of amazing locations and waves to push the competitors limits and rev up the competition. For 15 years the boys tour has stopped at Trestles in California for the Hurley Pro, where the waves are amazing for rights and lefts, they hollow and long above a rocky bottom. This high performance wave is a crowd pleaser and will make for some brilliant surf demonstrations from all the girls. Deep, powerful turns, airs and barrel rides are all looking to be on show.
The conditions, thanks to Magic Seaweed look to be light onshore winds on a 3-5 foot swell with sunny conditions reaching 27 degrees Celcius through the week.
Sally Fitzgibbons is biting at the heels of leader Carissa Moore so the tension will be thick in the change rooms. For the other girls it’s coming to the serious half of the season where every point and every heat counts more than ever to retain their position to stay on tour for 2015.
Carissa says “I’m so excited that in 2014 the women get to surf at Lower Trestles, It’s a dream to compete at such a world-class wave, it’s been one of my favorites waves since I was little.” Equally as excited is 5 x champ Steph Gilmore… “I’ve been waiting for an event at Lower Trestles all my life, it’s just so exciting to get to compete there.”
After placing 2nd to Nikki Van Dijk in the Supergirl Pro in France, Hawaiian Mahina Maeda will be the wildcard for the event and is pumped to get amongst the top girls.
The Swatch Pro Trestles starts next TUESDAY 9th SEPTEMBER and will be live via webcast on the ASP website.
