Surf De Nuit / Night Surf In Anglet

In the lead up the World Qualifying Series event at Anglet that runs between 22-26 August 2017, the event organisers have run a speciality event to rev up the summer energy in the coastal town. Surf De Nuit is a dusk/evening surf teams event that is comprised of three heats. Each team has a surfer each of the heats and the team with the highest score at the end of the evening wins.

Event organisers estimate there were about 20,000 spectators on the sand and the beach foreshore to watch some of the world’s best surfers shred with neon lights on their boards. There were also beautiful big balloon style lights scattered amongst the crowd resembling the full moon.

France’s former world tour surfer Pauline Ado couldn’t be stopped in the girls heat. Her power out in the darkness of the lineup was awesome to watch, and it was that skill that gave her team Rip Curl, the final points needed to take out the event.

“I can’t believe so many people showed up to watch us surf tonight,” she said to the World Surf League. “It’s awesome to be a part of it this year, honestly us girls have been looking at it quite enviously these past few years. It’s really beautiful out there, but pretty confusing cause you only see the waves right when they hit you pretty much, so you have to be sharp and alert at all times.”

England’s Ellie Turner was also announced as the wildcard winner into the QS1500 Anglet Pro event to start this week.
