Event eleven of the Subway® Summer Surf Series crowned six new champions after the event wrapped up in clean two-foot peaks at North Cronulla Beach today.

Alysse Cooper (Queenscliff, NSW) backed up her undefeated run through the Under-16 Girls claiming the overall victory in the division. The Northern Beaches goofy-footer performed a series of powerful forehand turns to post a respectable 11.17 heat total (out of a possible 20 points). Kiara Meredith (Barrack Heights, NSW), Bella Wilton (Manly, NSW) and Zoe Ifield (Entrance North, NSW) all managed to perform a variety of big turns, but failed to muster up the scores requires to topple Cooper from the top spot and had to settle for second, third and fourth respectively.

Alysse also managed to clutch a final minute victory in the Under-18 Girls for a series of solid hits. Thanks to some pinpoint backhand turns, Billie Melinz (Coalcliff, NSW) held down the lead for the majority of the heat, but was forced to watch Cooper take the win in the dying seconds of the final.

Alysse said to The Mermaid Society after her win;

“I am really happy to take the win in both u16 & u18s and stoked with how I surfed in both age groups in the tough conditions on the first day with a massive5-6 foot swell followed by a drop off for finals day which was was 2-3ft.

“In the U18 final it was really close with the other girls scoring 6s and 8s I was in third till the last minute when I scratched onto a wave and scored a 7 which pushed me in first.”

As winners of the Under-18 division, Alysse Cooper has won an invite to attend a three-day Subway® Surf Camp at the Hurley Surfing Australia High Performance Centre at Casuarina. She says “I’m really excited to be going to the HPC because I haven’t been in a while and I think it will help me improve my technique and push me to the next level.”

Mikaela Greene (Manly, NSW) claimed herself a wildcard into the upcoming 2015 Australian Surf Festival in Coffs Harbour thanks to her performance in the Under-21 division.

Mikaela said after winning her wild card;

“The conditions were pretty tricky but I was lucky to find a few waves that ran along the bank and allowed me to get a couple of scores down. I was using this event as practice for the WQS in New Zealand coming up and had no idea that there was a wildcard into the Surf Festival until after I had won, so it was kind of a bonus! Thanks to the sponsors of the event and all the organisers and competitors. Also a quick shoutout to my sponsors: SuperAdvice, Gunther Rohn surfboards and Carve for everything they do for me.”
