The Original Source Australian Boardriders Battle round 2 was held today at Waitpinga beach in South Australia. South Coast Boardriders Club have won a spot in the National Final after an outstanding team performance against Seaford Boardriders and Seaview Roaders.

“The day started with clean 2-3 foot conditions” says South Coast team member Ellie Francis. “Everyone was out free surfing the grinding left handers.”

Conditions did deteriorate throughout the day but that didn’t stop the vibe on the beach from everyone. Ellie says “A strong rip swept through on low tide but there will still waves on offer. It was just up to how each surfer could perform the strongest, most powerful manoeuvres In the small, crumbly surf.”

South Coast Boardriders surfers Max Longhurst and Khai Adams led their team of Tayla Hanak, Ellie Francis, Grant stocker and Alex Rix to victory.

Ellie Francis from the South Coast club is only one of a handful of girls who surf on the south coast but says they all receive so much support from the guys.  Ellie says “It’s awesome that this comp has been put together where we can work as a team to win and make it to the Australian Boardriders Battle final! After missing out on the spot last year, we were so determined to win and we all worked so hard and cheered each other on! I got a good scoring wave in the tag team event and ran back up the beach – the hole team was cheering me on. It was a great feeling knowing that I had an input in helping the team win!”

South Coast will now surf in the January finals against the winners of all the other winning state teams.
