Sage Erickson Wins Supergirl Pro and Results
What an amazing week of good vibes and small waves at Oceanside in California. The Paul Mitchell Supergirl Pro is the largest women’s surf event in the world. The dream tour girls join with qualification surfers and juniors in heats in competition for qualification series points next to the iconic Oceanside pier.
The event was a great platform for the QS surfers who are trying to pull together crucial points for their chance to get onto the 2015 dream tour. Silvana Lima has already won one QS event this year in New Zealand and pulled off some of her trademark air reverse moves in the quarterfinals but the waves weren’t on her side in the semis with Sage Erickson finding the 2 highest scores moving through to the final.
Coco Ho was the favourite against fellow Hawaiian Tatiana Weston-Webb in semi number 2 but Tatiana worked up 2 big scoring waves early securing a 14 point score that left Coco chasing an 8 point wave for 15 minutes. The end of heat lull meant Tatiana moved through to the finals against Sage.
THE FINALS between hometown fave Sage and Tatiana was intense. The girls went wave for wave with Tatiana consistently pulling out quick snaps looking hungry and busy for the whole heat. Sage came back with a 6 point wave to combine with her 5 pointer to take the win in the last 3 minutes of the finals to claim victory over a strong campaign from Tatiana. Sage Erickson 12.00 to Tatiana Weston-Webb10.50
Sage who has won her 2nd Supergirl Pro said after her win “Well done to Tatiana she ripped all week” she continued “I gave it everything I had and am so stoked to be here right now.”
CONGRATS to all the girls including our own Skye Burgess who competed in the event.
