Rip Curl Grom Search Trigg WA Results

It’s so refreshing to see so much talent spanning the entire coast line of Australia. The Rip Curl Grom Search presented by Posca was held at Trigg Beach over the weekend and drew the future of the West to the water.

In the 16s division it was dominant Gracetown girl Bailee Hastie (pictured) who took the top spot after a number of wins in 2014 she looks set to continue her upward rise. Surfing WA says “Hastie was innovative and smooth, tail sliding her way to a heat high 7.00 against some quality opposition. Hastie provided a backup 5.57 score to finish on a combined 12.57 (from a possible 20) to edge out Phoebe McGregor (Yallingup, WA), Bodhi Leigh-Jones (Avalon, NSW) and Emi Campbell (Denmark, WA ) who finished in second, third and fourth respectively.”

“I’ve had a great time at this event, and couldn’t be happy with this win,” said Hastie. “I’m going to go try my luck at the SunShine Coast GromSearch Event in December which is exciting.”

In the 12s there was fierce rivalry in the finals for gold between April McPherson and Bodhi Leigh-Jones with April proving she’s got some power in her surfing Surfing WA said “The fearless young natural-footer threw down an array of strong backhand turns which gave her a sought after back-to-back victory after the same division last year.”

The surfing sisters Bodhi and Cedar Leigh-Jones from Sydney made the trip across the dessert to compete in the event and had a great experience mixing it up with the girls of the west coast in the lead up to the Junior Australian Titles in Yallingup next month. Both girls brought their best with Bodhi giving it her all and getting places in both the 16s and 14s. Cedarwas absolutely shredding in the 12s and had all the point scoring waves and skills in the finals taking home the win with 13.5 points over Emma Cattlin, Maddie Cawood and Lucinda Jones.
