With ratings points now set after the first event of the two event series, the race to gain valuable series ratings points begins with all focus shifting to the second event of the series on the Sunshine Coast set to kick off on the 20-21 of June.

Duranbah again played host to the highly awaited event as finals got underway in a shifting 3-4ft South East Swell. The shift in conditions proved no match for Queensland’s best with a number of athletes scoring waves within the excellent range (8-10 points out of a possible 10).

In the blue ribbon Open Women’s final it was Isabella Nichols (Coolum Beach, QLD) taking it out and gaining those all important ratings points for the two event series. Isabella will enter event two on the Sunshine Coast as series leader and her spot in the 2016 Roxy Pro Trials as a Wildcard.

2014 HIF Women’s Open Women’s champion Sophie McCulloch (Alexandra Headland, QLD) again proved that she is also in strong contention for a second consecutive Roxy Pro Trials Wildcard. Although finishing third in the Open Women’s final to Isabella Nichols and Brodie Doyle (Coolangatta, QLD), Sophie managed to take out the Under 18 Girls final and also managed to bag a $100 winner’s cheque thanks to HIF for the Wave of the weekend, evidently stamping her authority for event one of the two event series.
