Jess Grimwood Wins Opens at Australian Surf Festival
Philipa Anderson from Newcastle had a pretty good day today scoring the wave of the day and taking home an FCS prize pack for her 9 point ride in her divisions and walked straight through to the Open Women’s Finals. Ellie Francis from South Australia was the only non-New South Welshman in the finals this year and did a great job representing her southern state.
The conditions were a lot cleaner today and had a nice 3-4 foot face for the competitors. Jess Grimwood from Bateau Bay on the NSW Central Coast, took the win in the Women’s Opens division with an impressive 9.25 wave score which kept her in front of the 3 other finalists Philipa Anderson, Macy Callaghan and Ellie Francis.
In the Over 35s division Sandra English took home her 13th Australian Title and also scored herself a fine 9.0 wave in the finals. English, who has been out of the water injured for most of the year was stoked to continue her winning legacy as the event wildcard for the over 35s and said “the camaraderie between all the girls was great…which made the event even more awesome.”
