OCCY’S GROM COMP WRAP-UP 2014
Duranbah on the Gold Coast Australia has been the location this week for Occy’s Grom Comp 2014. The event run by 1999 ASP World Champ Mark Occhilupo. The event draws the world’s best under 16, under 14 and under 12 competitors and in 2014 the divisions for the girls under 16 and 14s are top class with names like Holly Coffey, Kiara Meredith, Alyssa Lock and Billie Melinz set the mark early to make competition intense and great viewing for the school holidays crowds.
Conditions for the first 2 days were crystal clear, 2- 3 footers with a perfect off-shore breeze and fantastic for the girls to show off their skills in the warm Queensland waters.
Bulli’s Billie Melinz says “the waves were really tricky on the first few days because it was super small but once you got through those hard rounds it was a lot better because the swell came up. All the other girls were showing really good form especially Holly Coffey she was a real stand out. Even though I got second that was defiantly one of my favourite finals I have ever surfed because there was no paddle battles. I was super happy for Holly to take it out. It was well deserved by her and I couldn’t be any happier that she won it.”
Congratulations to all the girls who competed it was fantastic to see such a strong field of girls.
