She’s absolutely killing it… Macy Callaghan is only 13 but is dominating the east coast of Australia’s junior surfing scene with 3 major wins in as many weeks. Macy’s winning form isn’t just good luck, she’s performing some incredible manoeuvres and demonstrating power surfing at a level unseen for age group. Her surfing is seamless and sooth, linking a number of high point scoring turns and snaps to keep her moving through heat by heat.

She’s been working closely with her Sydney based coaches Matt Grainger and Glenn Hall at the Manly Surf School High Performace Centre to develop her new and consistent style. Macy says “Before comps I train twice a week with my surf coaches, I swim twice a week and I surf every Morning and every afternoon. I try and spend as much time in the water so I can practice different moves and improve my surfing… and of course, because it so much fun!’

So what’s been giving Macy that extra inch above her competition… she says “I think my backhand has been really strong lately and that’s what has been giving me my best scores and giving me the upper hand on the other girls. My next big comp is the Australian Titles (In Yallingup WA) I am currently the under 14 Australian Champion and I would love to win another title.”
