Macy Callaghan (Avoca) has won the 2015 NRMA NSW Open State Title champions after taking out the women’s division in small and tricky one-foot waves at Blackrock, Pottsville in Northern NSW.After putting on the standout performance of the event yesterday, Macy Callaghan continued to build on her momentum in the Open.

Skye Burgess has had a return to form blitzing her early rounds and placing 4th in the finals. Great to see Skye back out in the competitors jersey and ripping even in the small conditions. Skye said “The conditions were really small especially compared to last year’s 8 foot it was tricky with the inconsistency. In the final Macy was good with the quick, linked turns which got her the big points to take the title.”

After putting on the standout performance of the event yesterday, Macy Callaghan continued to build on her momentum in the Open Women’s final. The Central Coast natural-footer posted a heat total of 11.77 (out of a possible 20 points) to get the edge over local surfers Alyssa Lock (Tweed Heads) and Ashlee Spence (Kingscliff) and south coast’s Skye Burgess (Lake Heights) who claimed second, third and fourth respectively. As a result of the win, Macy has sealed her position in the NRMA NSW Team at the upcoming Australian Surf Festival alongside Lock.

“The waves were really tricky out there, so I decided to sit to the left of everyone and pick off the bigger waves and the plan worked,” said Callaghan.

“It was my goal to do well in this event and see how I went against the older girls. I want to really push myself a lot this year. All the other girls were ripping, so I felt I had to be a bit meaner to get the win. It can all be pretty intimidating at times.”The NRMA NSW Open State Titles presented by HIF finalists will receive entry into a trials event in Maroubra in January, which will give them a chance to win a wildcard into the 2016 Burton Automotive Pro as part of Newcastle Surfest in Merewether.
