Liz Pluimers Wins Rounds 1 and 2 of Nutrigrain Ironwoman Series
Smiths Beach in Western Australia was the picture perfect venue to kick off the first 2 rounds of the Nutrigrain Ironwoman Series for 2014/15. Our very own Jordie Magic Mercer has been hard in training leading up to the series with a number of events including the Noosa Tri and ocean swims.
Round one held on Saturday was 2 loops of an M-Shaped course that included a board paddle, swim and surf ski. In near flat but crystal clear, warm 25 degree waters Liz Pluimers made light work of the round one course ahead of Courtney Hancock and Rebecca Creedy.
Round two finished up today with the Eliminator course which consists of 3 rounds of a U-shaped course with board, swim and ski. After each round only 10 of the competitors make it through to the next. Jordie Mercer took out the first then it was power-house Liz Pluimers coming in first on the 2nd and 3rd eliminator events.
The leaderboard after rounds 1 and 2 this weekend are as follows. Rounds 3 and 4 will be in Surfer’s Paradise on 20th – 21st December. Visit the Nutrigain Ironwoman Series site for more details.
The Nutrigrain Ironwoman series is made up of Australia’s best Surf Life Saving athletes who must qualify to gain their place on the national competition tour. Each Ironwoman must complete minimum volunteer patrol hours with their local club to be able to compete each year.
