Keely Andrew Wins New Zealand Taranaki Pro Defeating Coco Ho

In a week of exchanging score for score, the girls of the World Surf League, World Qualifying Series 6000 New Zealand Home Loans Surf Festival at Port Taranaki, New Plymouth on the North Island of New Zealand.
It was an incredible morning fought out between Sage Erickson, Tessa Thyssen, Coco Ho and Keely Andrew. In a fast final of onshore winds and looming storm, Keely defeated Coco Ho in good onshore 1m plus surf opening the Final early with a solid 5.83 and backing that score up with a 6.67 for a final total of 12.50 to Ho’s 9.80. There were plenty of waves on offer but none with any big faces or high scoring potential for the girls although Keely pulled out the best beach break moves to secure her win.
Today’s win gives Keely an outstanding chance to qualify for the 2016 World Surf League Championship Tour and has seen her rocket up the QS rankings to equal 4th place.
“This is a really important result for me. I haven’t had the greatest start to the year, but this puts me back on track for sure,” said Andrew. “I missed qualifying by such a small margin last year and that has really made me hungry and determined to get there. I know this result is great, but I also know I need a few more strong results this year so I can’t get too carried away with the win even though right now I feel great.”
The Championship Tour surfers like Coco Ho and Sage Erickson, they now head straight to Australia for the Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach. The aspiring Championship Tour surfers now look to their next major World Surf League Qualifying Series event is in Mexico in June.
