The Claro ISA 50th Anniversary World Surfing Games have been running hot in Punta Hermosa, Peru for the last week and today we can announce the Women’s champions. The waves and conditions for the whole week have been perfect 3-5 foot offshore making for great results and big manoeuvres from the girls. There was so much stoke on the beach every day of the event with all competitors standing tall for their countries.
In the Women’s repercharge final it was Australia’s Jessica Grimwood in first and Philippa Anderson in 2nd both fought out the final with a number of tight turns and powerful cutbacks to win a place back in the Open final. With the Aussie girls top placings Australia was put in top spot on the total points score.
Congratulations to Anali Gomez of Peru, the local girl who took out the Women’s final in a very tight match up. Dominic Barona from Ecuadore was just out of reach by 0.23 and there was so little between the top 2 girls with them both surfing at an amazingly high and consistent level throughout the whole contest.
Peru was crowned the winning nation narrowly beating Australia 2nd, with Argentina 3rd and in Costa Rica 4th place. Peru, the host country was also the winner of the Fernando Aguerre World Team Champion Trophy and the International Olympic Committee President’s Trophy.
In 2014 the International Surfing Association celebrates it’s 50th year since it’s establishment by Midget Farrelly after his historic win in Manly Australia in 1964.
