Holly Wawn Tears Up the Pacific
Holly Wawn has to be one of the strongest surfers of her generation in Austrlia. She’s been taking out 95% events that she enters but admits to loving the free surf lifestyle and pushing the limits on what’s possible for her in the waves around the world.
She’s just returned from a whirlwind trip in and around the Pacific Ocean including The Mentawai Islands and America. She says Macaronis Resort in the Mentawai was a highlight of the trip despite the 3 day travel time. She says “We were there for just over a week, I was there with my coach Beau Mitchell amie Krups, Davey Cathels, Alex Hayes, Luca elder, Kai Warner and also our photographer Murray Fraser or @sproutdaily on Instagram, it was just a little fun trip to get photos and surf really good waves together.”
We all dream of taking time to surf perfect waves and the Mentawais are just that. We asked Holly what made the waves so good at Macaronis…”The wave at Macaronis is mechanical every wave is very ‘hittable’ and runs along the reef perfectly. The highlight was the whole trip as we got waves all week with no flat days.”
And going on a trip with the boys is a great way of taking your surfing to a new level and pushing yourself to take on moves and waves beyond what you do at home right? “Every night we watched the footage from the day or look at the photos everyone was doing crazy stuff on these waves, and hitting the gnarliest sections, its hard to compare yourself with boys but I definitely was pushed harder as they all surf so well.”
On her return, Holly is working towards Aussie Titles coming up next month and then taking a trip to Namotu Island in Fiji (she says is the best place on Earth) and then hitting Hawaii for the Surf season.
