Gurfer Clip of the Week

This week’s Gurfer Clip of the Week is from Maya Gaberia… Seeing as the surf world is going nuts for Teahupoo, Tahiti, this week, we thought this clip was right on trend. WE LOVE THIS CLIP and the soundtrack!

Maya is a 27 year-old big wave surfer from Brazil – she charges… boy does she CHARGE. Dead-set she’s taking women’s surfing to a new level on her own! Teahupoo, Nazare, Jaws, Dungeons. She can surf them all at one thousand stories high, beyond your wildest dreams. Maya is sponsored by Red Bull and Billabong.

It’s all or nothing with this super girl. She says in this clip “You have to be there, body and soul, with all you have.”

This clip is from her 2011 take down at Teahupoo. It’s one of the world’s heaviest waves crunching down on it’s prey. It’s her journey back to take on her fear, to take on Teahupoo again bigger and better. “For the first time after an incident that almost took her life in the “skull breaker” reefs of Teahupoo in 2011, Maya Gabeira is back to Tahiti to face an epic swell of giant waves.”

Just last year in 2013  Nazaré, Portugal an epic storm swell pounded the coast. The world’s best in the big wave surf circles ascended on what is known as one of the biggest waves ever. After a being towed into one of these 40 metre + high waves Maya was taken down by the enormous white water unconscious. Again she survived, and continues to hunt the biggest and the best waves on the planet.

Maya Gaberia is the recipient of:
