Over the weekend in Wales in the UK a fantastic event was held at Rest Bay, Porthcawl Wales UK.

Emily Williams is the defending Welsh National Womans and Under 18 girls Champion for the last two years and is working hard to push her own surfing to a new level.

The Elusive Event is a great fun and  friendly annual event sponsored by the Elusive clothing company. Emily says  “The Welsh Surfing Federation and Welsh Coast Surf Club help run the event and many local surf companies sponsor the event. The comp had to move location due to the stormy weather, the surf was 3-4ft but very inconsistent so it was hard work getting through heats. We had competitors from all over Wales and even some from Cornwall. Age range of competitors ranged from twenties to early teens.”

The finals brought some more consistent swell on, Emily says “I was lucky enough to get two early waves which gave me confidence and the offshore conditions in the final meant I could smash the lip and throw in a couple of floaters.”

Next up Emily is travelling to the North East of England to compete in a Junior event and then an event in Thurso Scotland finishing up with the British Champs in November.

When asked how she copes with focussing on competition surfing in places like SCOTLAND Emily replied “We spend 3 months in 5/6 mm wetsuits with hood boots and gloves, but I’d rather be surfing in a bikini! The wettys are pretty flexible and it’s like resistance training!”

Emily’s boards are made by Luke Hart who runs Fourth Surfboards she says “Luke has been really good to me, gives me loads of advice.” I’m She is also supported by FCS and GorillaHive Swimwear Europe and Nectar Sunglasses.
