Coco Ho Wins ASP 5-Star Oceano Santa Catarina Pro
This week in Praia da Joaquina, Florianopolis, Santa Catarina / Brazil the girls have been competing in the ASP 5 Star Oceano Pro event. Some of the WCT surfers are still competing to try and secure their spot back on tour next year so are working extra hard in these last few months of 2014 to accumulate all the points they can get.
For Coco Ho this was particularly the case but with this win she’s slotted herself into number 2 position with this her 3rd QS win of the year she is now behind Silvana Lima in 2nd spot on the QS Ladder and with 2 events to go on the Qualifying tour (both in South America) but most importantly she has booked her spot back on the 2015 WCT tour.
“The Final was really fun, it was all about who got the best waves. I was pretty stoked that I got that 9.00 and it kind of set the pace. It felt really good and I got it without having priority. I just saw the little wall and I knew I had to go.”
Waves for the final day of the event were versatile for the girls with a 2-3 foot set upon the beach of Florianopolis. It was great to see Australian Philipa Anderson make it to the semi finals after all the support her local club has been throwing behind her. Unfortunately she was knocked out by Coco on her way to the finals where Coco met Keely Andrew who has been making her mark on the QS tour this year with some great results. Keely was producing high scoring waves throughout the event and in her semi final against Nikki Van Dijk she had that little extra to push her over the line and into the finals against Coco.
“I was fortunate enough to show off my surfing in the event,” said Keely Andrew. “I’m kind of bummed I didn’t produce enough points in the Final, but it’s still a good result for me and it’s been such a fun event. I got kind of pulled out with the tide and didn’t have very good wave selection. But I had a pretty good year personally on the QS, and I’d love to be on tour one day and if it’s not this year, hopefully it’ll be the next.”
