CLIP OF THE WEEK with Josie Prendergast

Earlier last week our friends at McTavish Surfboards in Byron Bay released episode 5 of their Dedicated to the Craft video series. The entire series is so superbly shot and is visually stunning to watch. There aren’t actually any words to describe how, just nice, this clip is to watch so do yourself a favour!

In this episode we are introduced to young Josie Prendergast of Byron Bay. Josie was born in the Philipines, her family moved to Australia when she was young and she took to surfing like a true mermaid.

We had a quick chat to Josie about her surfing and the clip but WATCH FIRST

Tell us a bit about why you LOVE McTavish boards are they as silky smooth to ride as they look? The best thing about them is that there are so many different boards and are all made for different styles! Yes, they make you feel like riding waves effortlessly and your always having fun.

How have you developed your style? Have there been people that you’ve watched to find a similar style, you’re so light on your feet… I’ve developed my style over the years but have been inspired by my dad teaching me. I believe each style is your own. You can’t necessarily copy a style but you can work on it. I like to watch some good friends if mine surf and take notes from what I would like to change.

What kind of board do you most often ride? I usually ride my ‘Fire Ball Square Tail‘ that is 9’2. I love it because it’s so smooth and you can ride it in any conditions

You’ve come so far for such a young surfer but is there anywhere in particular you want to take your surfing? I would like to take my long boarding further by continually developing my own unique style and enter in more competitions as I get more confident.
