The local Barbados surfer girl Chelsea Tuach was the defending champion leading into the final World Junior Tour event of the year held at Bathsheba, Barbados. In a 2-3 foot wind swell that didn’t stop the girls from jamming the small sections and utilising their fast movements.
Coming into the event strong after her 3rd place at the World Juniors, Chelsea was a strong and dominant surfer for the whole week of the event and through the finals kept her momentum until the last few minutes when she came in at a draw with Bajan Chelsea Roett. The girls then spend what would have been the longest 2 minutes of their lives battling wave for wave to put the points on the board.
Chelsea Tuach found just enough points right on the buzzer to edge in front. “It feels great to win at home again. It was a really tough battle and the final was a lot more stressful than last year.” Said Tuach.
“A set came through with about 30 seconds to go so I got the first one and connected a few turns to better my score, but as I kicked out I saw Chelsea (Roett) taking off on what looked like the wave of the day. She ended up getting the score she needed, but I had bettered my position on my wave, so luckily it worked out for me. It was such an emotional way to end the Final and this is a great win for me.”
The win also puts Chelsea Tuach in equal 3rd place with Australia’s Bronte Macaulay behind Mahina Maeda and Tessa Thyssen on the final World Junior Tour Rankings for 2014.
Chelsea Tuach is currently seeking crowd funding for her first documentary check out the trailer below.
