Ariane Ochoa Wins European Rip Curl Grom Search Finals

Mundaka, Bizkaia, Spain was the location of the european finals of the Rip Curl From Search presented by Posca. With waves at the 2-3  foot range event winner and Basque surfer Ariane Ochoa says “Mundaka has a lot of power so the smaller waves were good to utilise but there were long waits between sets.”

Ariane calls Bilbao ( in the Basque Country) home but that’s over an hour from the ocean. Easily getting the dedication award Ariane takes the train to get her surf training done, you’ll find her tearing up waves up and down the west coast of Hendaia.

Known for her powerful surfing this 16 year old powerhouse says her strongest move is her radical re-entry. So how does she keep fit and stay at the top of her surfing game to win events like this? Ariane says “I keep up my training by running and swiming. I also train on an indoor cycle and use weights to maintain and improve my strength. I make sure I stretch regularly to stay flexible and I surf as much as I can.”

After her win Ariane said “I can’t describe how happy I am with the result here. I’ve put in so much hard work and got a great outcome.” Ariane has won a ticket to the World From Search finals with the location a secret now, no doubt it will be an epic event.

The Rip Curl From Search is a great way for Ariane to finish out 2014 can’t wait to see how far she goes in 2015. “Next year I am going to do the Junior European Championships and the WQS around Europe and other countries.”
