The 2015 Roxy Pro has had some pretty big ups and downs. From ground one we saw the top seeds struggle agains the newcomers in Rookie Hawaiian Tatiana Weston-Webb and the resurgence of Brazilian Silvana Lima. If this event is remembered for anything it will be the rocket up the top seeds from the girls under the radar – Our faves from the event include Lakey Peterson, Carissa Moore, Malia Manuel, Tatiana Weston-Webb and Silvana Lima for their influence and shift in the women’s surfing movement!

In round 1 Tatiana was 0.5 points away from defeating Carissa Moore and Silvana Lima took down Stephanie Gilmore with one of the biggest air’s ever completed in women’s surf competition. Silvana was rewarded with a 9.33 for her successful execution of this massive wave. SEE VIDEO…

Laura Enever was taken down by friend Coco Ho in round 3 after her glowing home win at the Hurley Australian Open of Surf.

Sally Fitgibbons became the victim of the power duo Tatiana Weston-Webb and Malia Manuel in round 4 and was eliminated from the competition. Will we see a smiling Sally return to form at the Drug Aware Pro in Western Australia?

As the rounds progressed the swell decreased and so we saw the longest waiting period ever with practically no waves on offer.

After are a few lay days back to back we saw return to competition today on Friday 13th March straight into the quarter finals where the top seed returned to form with Steph Gilmore sweeping the pool after initially showing nerves against long time rival Silvana Lima. Lima couldn’t find the right sections to pull out another air show and so was eliminated.

Lakey Peterson made her mark during the event with high powered and dynamic surfing and is another highlight we can’t wait to see boom at event #2.

Tatiana Weston-Webb was finally taken out by Steph in the semi finals as was Tyler Wright by Carissa Moore seeing a high energy finals set for the event between Carissa and Steph.

Best wave in our opinion was Carissa’s barrel and reverse slide (rewarded with a 9.5) LOVED this outstanding performance!

The Roxy Pro Final was a back and forth competition with big scores from both girls. Carissa nailed two 9 point rides and the highest heat total for the event, combo-ing in the final 5 minutes. There were no waves on the horizon for Steph and Carissa cruised through to the beach as the first event champion for 2015. Carissa said “I’m so stoked and just so happy coming up against Steph. This year is going to be insane all the girls are on fire and it’s a clean slate for everyone so I can’t wait!”
