2015 RIP CURL HIF WEST COAST CLASSIC was one big show down at Nettley Bay in Tasmania over the weekend. It was some tricky 1 to 2.5 metre surf at the Bay but the girls put on all the moves.

The Open Womens Final saw the best ever field of finalists with the experienced Sarah Prior up against the competitive power of the young crew of Brooke Mason, Lizzy Stokely and Marrawah girl and 2014 West Coast Classic Womens Champion Zoe Grey.

The 40th West Coast Classic proved challenging for event organisers who were confronted with more of this summer’s ongoing poor seasonal weather with frontal onshore winds, some rain and large swells leading into the long weekend.

Come Saturday morning, Nettley Bay proved to be an ideal location this year where competitors, officials and spectators were treated to lots of sunshine, mild onshore winds with just the odd shower or two and very competitive but challenging 1 to 2.5 metre surf.

Newest Roxy recruit Lizzie Stockley was stoked to win the under18’s division saying “It was good to be able to find some good scoring waves throughout my heat. The conditions were super tricky throughout the whole final, and it was tough having to take continuous six foot sets on the head. It was really good to see the younger girls out there having a crack, and good to see them take off on some bombs swell!”
