9th August 2015 – Queensland’s best surfers under the age of 18 took to the waves of the Sunshine Coast at the opening round of the two-event Queensland State Junior Titles Series. Girls took part in the categories of Under 12, 14, 16 and 18 is perfect waves, 1-1.5m at Coolum Beach in the sunshine state.

Burleigh Heads’ Lucy Callister held a strong campaign against Sophie McCulloch but was unable to sustain her strong moves against Sophie’s finals combos.

In the 16s girls it was Amber Dods who defeated an in-form Piper Harrison to take the win and in the 14s Zahli Kelly cruised through the final to finish with the gold for round one.

The coveted competition will also see the junior surfers compete for two wildcards into the World Surf League (WSL) World Tour’s 2016 Quiksilver and Roxy Pro’s trials. (Sophie McCulloch is now ahead in the points score) Queensland’s Under 18 Female State Champion will receive a wildcard to surf in the trials event, potentially competing against the world’s best professional surfers at the 2016 Roxy Pro trials at Snapper Rocks.
