HIF Junior State Championship Series for 2015 was held over the weekend in wonderful warm East Coast winter sunshine and great small to medium Dark Hollow surf. Competitors and spectators enjoyed two days of competition to wind up what has been a very successful season for 2015.

The conditions were really promising all weekend with the sun was out and an offshore breeze keeping the waves small but contestable. The girls were lucky to have some peeling right handers all weekend to work with.

Tasmanian rising star Lizzie Stokely commented on the increase in participation by the girls in the smaller southern state “It was really good to see more girls in the under 14 and 16 divisions in this event, and they are all at really promising standards. The standard is definitely lifting in the younger divisions, they are all killing it! It was really good to see them out in force on the weekend. They’re such a great group and we all get along really well.”

In the 18’s final it was Lizzie who lead the charge locking in a wave with a strong selection of manoeuvres on her first few waves she said “After getting those under my belt I felt confident to have a go at some riskier turns, which luckily paid off, and extended my score! The girls in the final surfed really well and we all had a great time in the water. It was an awesome way to end my last ever Tasmanian junior competition.”

Congratulations to all the girls in the event and well done in helping the development of girls surfing in Tasmania! Will we see a future Tazzie born world champion?
