2nd August 2015 – The Australian Surfing Titles saw their first champions crowned today at Gallows Beach in Coff’s Harbour. The 2 foot, clean conditions were perfect for the girls to use the wave’s face for some dynamic and progressive moves with big scores being dropped by judges.

The surfing junior prodigy, Macy Callaghan from Avoca NSW, nearly swept the Australian junior competition tour dry with today, the Open Womens division title win. Former WCT surfer and Western Australian power surfer, Claire Bevilacqua put up a solid fight in the title race but could not overcome the momentum that Macy has picked up over the last 12 months. As well as winning the Open division she’s earned herself a spot on next year’s ISA World Surfing Games team.

“It’s the best feeling to make a final with these guys as they’re some of Australia’s best,” said Callaghan. “I knew all these girls would have been really hard to beat, so I had to give it everything I could. I’m just so pumped to have won titles in the juniors and opens.”

2015 NSW State Champ, Nicola Turner from Cronulla NSW, walked away with some huge scores and the gold in the Over-35 Womens final. Putting together 9.75 was the key to her success today keeping the competition at an arms length. The win also earned Nicola a spot in the ISA World Masters team.

Nicola said after her win… “I’m so lucky, this was my next goal after winning state, so I’m over the moon to get the win. All these other women inspire me to surf better, so to get a win feels incredible.”

Congratulations to Claire Bevilacqua who took home the BCU money turn for a series of giant backside turns in the quarterfinals of the Open Women. As a result, Bevilacqua was awarded a $100 bank account courtesy of BCU.

The Festival continues this week with the Bodyboard, Longboard and SUP divisions taking place in Coff’s Harbour. Check out the schedule and all the info
